Observation details
My first estimate of this colony based upon flock seen flying low 5’ or less in a group over adjacent grassland near cattle. The birds seem to be “rolling” along flying low, landing for 10-20 seconds then arising from the field to fly back to potential nesting substrate. Birds seen flying around and landing in the tops of native Stinging Nettle (Urtica doicia). Some birds disappeared into the lower nettles while others perched very visibly in the tops. Vocalizing is ongoing with the “strangled cat” call and also some chirps and sort of a grasshopper type call. I did not see any bird carrying nest material nor carrying food. Female and male numbers approx even.
