Observation details
Nesting pair had two goslings, but today they are gone. I heard a lot of clamor and then calling about noon. I think the goslings slid down the incline near their nest and fell into the creek which has a fast current due to recent rains and 8-10 feet concrete walls, so there's no escape, and the creek soon goes under the city streets for about a mile. A few days before they were hatched, the city contractors (tree removal) cut down all the trees and vegetation along the creek on the nest's side including sizable young trees around the nest. The goslings might have been predated by hawks, but either way habitat destruction was probably the cause. The parents stayed, calling until late afternoon, and then slowly walked away.
