Observation details
Dead bird found by researcher in middle of grassy paddock exactly where RBBQ were heard regularly a few days earlier and photographed by Gavin O'Meara and myself a day later. Some downy feathers and wing feathers not fully developed show that this a young fledgling. Heavy white spotting on breast and flanks (rather hidden by wings on photo) is diagnostic for juvenile male RBBQ. Colouration also darker than Painted (wrong habitat anyway). Evidence of breeding of RBBQ in SEQ.
