Close up. Male perched near nest box. Nest with young.
Observation details
Nest box with young. Over several days the male has perched in nest box opening for most of the day. Based on last years observations, this indicates that chicks are present in the next box. Predicted that when the trees have leafed out he would leave the nest and perch nearby. When he wasn't in the next box opening this morning I checked the perch he used last year at this time. An American Beech. Yep, he was there, same branch next to the trunk. See photos.
