very actively diving duck in surf right at edge of beach (in very shallow water) and was underwater most of the time. Black bill suggest first-winter (if a male) and black on throat & chin suggests a male, I guess. So my guess is a spring molt in first-winter male?
Observation details
Found by Zhennong Li this morning and reported to eBird. We decided to check on the way home from Rana Creek Preserve. The small duck was actively diving in the surf right next to Seal Rock Beach. Photos
