Observation details
We first heard two owls counter-calling, with one closer and one distant. I recorded the closer bird and then did some playback to see if we would get eyes on the bird. It quickly responded by flying into the top of a nearby valley oak. It started to vocalize and was instantly mobbed by a horde of passerines, which continued to pester it as it moved from tree to tree, before departing the area.
