Observation details
1232 - I noticed a large Accipiter over Dunn Gardens heading straight toward the yard from the north below tree height. It veered toward the water passing behind a tree and I prepared to take photos of it as it passed through an opening. While doing so I noted it was a juvenile with a full crop and the streaking on the underside was very blotchy and extensive. There was also a prominent molt limit in the middle of each wing. In checking the photos the underside is heavily streaked with larger dark rounder markings than on Cooper’s Hawk and dark markings continue down onto the undertail coverts. In one photo part of one dark band on the upper tail can be seen and it appears to have pale edges both above and below it.
