Observation details
Continuing piping plover observed from here: 37.4955468, -122.1526081 as posted 4/7 by Parker Kaye. I can see why initially reported by finder (Ben Pearl) as possible leucistic Semipalmated. Structurally very much like nearby sepl but much paler dorsally with white upper tail coverts when seen in flight . Ruled out confusion with snowy by rounder /smaller head profile and could see hints of orange yellow on upper legs where not grayed by mud. Some trash pics with iPhone through scope included just to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating in the post ecliptic sun , 6th state /first NorCal record. Much thanks to all the subsequent observers who took the time to document and nail down the ID and obtain photos; first and foremost Marty Freeland but also L. Kahle, L. Stephenson, M. Park et al
