Observation details
Rare. Small songbird, blue-grey back, white below with salmon flanks, prominent black eye on pale face, crest. Record photo obtained. Seen 10:55 to 11:05 on south shore west of lighthouse by little red wagon. Stayed very high in the tree tops, moving around rapidly. Emitted a desultory two note song several times, as well as thin, high pitched call notes. Reckon it just flew in from across the lake. Saw similar behaviour here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S60853794 At same time as my observation, Chris Davidson saw a Tufted Titmouse at the lighthouse, +200 metres to the east. Not necessarily same bird, may have been 2 present. After warm winter probably a higher population than usual to pioneer north from south side of Lake Ontario where they are fairly common.
