Observation details

Rusty orange face. Dark bill. Body light grayish tan. Thick, dark stripe along top of head. In light head stripe shimmered metallic green (like a mallard). Bright green spot near back of body. Was in an ephemeral wetland with northern shoveler and blue winged teal. Did not interact with other ducks-was more on its own.
