Observation details
Bird sighted midway up the pier and appeared to be blown in by storm winds and morning storm. Originally found by management crew member. Pier was closed for re-construction, and I was allowed special access to view and document the bird. Bird was tucked resting, then fluffed feathers and looked around, but did not try to fly. Bird was approx 50 ft away from me, yet my zoom camera was able to get some close shots. Unfortunately, I learned the next day that the beautiful bird had expired. Local wildlife biologist felt the bird expired from exhaustion fighting the storm.
