Observation details
Observed as it drifted downriver in the high, muddy water, directly West of the boat launch. Actively preening, splashing, and bathing. Flipped upside down for a few seconds, with giant black paddle feet kicking in the air. Large white swan with massive all-black beak (no small yellow skin patch like their Tundra cousins) and pointed white forehead extending down into the top of the black upper mandible. Very possibly the same swan documented upriver from here eight days prior on March 29. Or just as possibly another swan stopping over in this popular swan hangout (featuring abundant submerged aquatic vegetation) and working its way towards the Great Lakes breeding population areas. Photos.
