Observation details
Large sandpiper foraging in a flooded field. It was feeding on grubs which had been flooded out of their burrows. Orange legs and base to the bill (which was otherwise black). Bill shorter and thicker than a Yellowlegs with very slightly downward curved culmen. Very patterned back and beautifully patterned tertials in brown, black and white. Breast and underside mostly unmarked, whitish. Female-type bird (though closely resembles "winter male" as depicted in the Collins Guide, though by April it should be in breeding or moving in that direction Obviously, this could be a faeder male, so ulitimatly the sex is unknown.) Found earlier today by Jason Lambert. Many photos.
