Observation details
3-5. Recording of song attached. — Seen well! m and f seen well pond side in same thickety where also several WTSP, (42.45140, -76.45363). my FOS! Wow! Female esp, wow! has a really chocolatey brown head hood. I don’t think I ever saw a female this well this past fall since moving to Ithaca. Hear some small seep (drawn out) calls much softer smaller than SPTO’s. — then hear 1-2 others singing upslope from this pondside spot. Recorded one. FOS song. Also ho s another elsewhere. — These definitely weren’t here 3 days ago. New (spring) movement in! * Apparently there was a 4.8 magnitude earthquake in New Jersey at 10:23am while I was walking here. Caleb: Feel an Earthquake? There was just one in New Jersey that some people felt here. CKJ: Nope, did not at all feel a quake, 0%! And I was outside entire time Jimmy: Did you guys feel the earthquake this morning? CKJ: No I didn't. And I was outside for it and didn't feel anything. I'll be home soon, and I'll check if any damage! A news article says someone in Massachusetts, 200 miles away from the earthquake center, had items falling off their shelves in the house ... I'll let you know if I find anything on the floor ... though if I do, how will we know it wasn't just Pierre? He's kind of an earthquake sometimes. Jimmy: From what I've read, damage has been very minimal. Earthquakes are so unusual there though. Glad it wasn't worse. Hope all is well! CKJ: Just got home and I don't see anything amiss, so I don't think we got a quake here. * today’s FLORA NOTES: - red and silver maples and cornelian cherries full (or passing) blooming. - buttercup winterhazels blooming. - cherries, forsythia, magnolias beginning to blossom, - viburnums flower-budding and leafing out, some blossoms (fragrant viburnum!) - pears, serviceberries with flower buds - apples and crabapples, lilacs, willows leafing out. - birches budding and new catkins out. * *= new FLOWERS blooming since 04/02/24 ) FLOWERS: daffodils hellebores Pulmonaria sp. *squill TREE FLOWERS blooming: Acer rubrum cultivars - red maple - Cornus mas cultivars - cornelian cherry - Cornus officiinalis cultivars - Japanese cornelian cherry - *Magnolia x loebneri ‘Merrill’ - Loebner magnolia - Magnolia zenii ‘Pink Parchment’ - zen magnolia - *Prunus ‘Dream Catcher’ - flowering cherry - TREE FLOWER BUDS: Lindera benzoin - spicebush - Magnolia ‘Pinkie’ - Prunus cv. snofozam - Snow Fountains - weeping cherry - Viburnum sp. cultivars - viburnums TREE LEAFING out from leaf buds: Liriodendron tulipifera ‘Fastigiatum’ - upright tulip tree - Malus sp. - flowering crabapples - Malus sargentii cultivars - Sargent crabapples - Pyrus sp. - pears - Salix eleagnos - hoary willow - Viburnum sieboldii ‘Seneca’ - siebold viburnum-
