Observation details
Continuing with Common Loons, maybe out in the main loon fishing/river channel, very large grebe with long olive bill with very long white neck with black stripe on hindneck, observed from the Trail of Tears boat ramp at 34.3984500, -86.2106697. The grebe was around a mile out with loons at about 34.4079744, -86.2293207 the entire session, never seemed to dive, very choppy with the strong wind, scope needed unless much closer. - - - Handheld phonescoped video screen captures shot at 150-450x (50x optical scope with 9x optical/digital combo iPhone) through immensely magnified heat shimmer at a range of about a mile. As usual with distant birds seen better than videoed. Best to zoom images.
