Observation details
An uncommon breeder in high elevation meadows of the Eastern Sierra. Gaines only mentions three summer records. Are numbers increasing? We found three Lincoln's Sparrows in a lush, wet meadow along the trail between Rock Creek Resort and Rock Creek Lodge, on the east side of the creek. Two were in Inyo County and one was in Mono County. One bird was seen with its mouth full of food (insects) and dropping out of view. The birds were frequently seen popping up out of the rich wildflower garden to perch at mid-to-low-level on Lodgepole Pines adjacent the meadows. The song was quite different from the nearby Song Sparrows. Here is an audio recording via iPhone Voice Memo:
