Observation details
After hearing what sounded like the calls of a "whitting" Empidonax, tried pishing in an attempt to get whatever was vocalizing to come in. Had no luck determining what was giving the "whit" type calls but then began hearing the scold calls of a vireo at close range, which I figured was likely going to be a WEVI. Pleasantly surprised to discover the scold calls were being given by a male Black-capped Vireo. The male BCVI hung out in the area for several minutes, and at one point had a brief look at what appeared to be a female type BCVI (presumably a mate).
