Observation details
Hunting out on the sandy flats along the river beyond the Maya Lin blind. See distant photos. Appeared small and sleek with relatively large head, small bill, and bright white breast, thus giving me immediately the giss of Loggerhead rather than Northern. Gray color of back and head variable in photos according to exposure but in life appeared consistently dark enough to fit Loggerhead and not Northern. Black of mask extended through lores and a small bit of it, especially on left side, reached up around the top edge of the bill. This is visible (barely!) in a couple of the photos embedded and also in some poorer additional photos not included.
