Observation details
Great binocular views of the three Eastern Meadowlarks standing all together at one time, behind the fence. I took some photos of one of them. Such a crappy day for flying that the airport was mostly silent (except for two jets and one small plane). I had the window open, listening as I drove slowly. I got a phenomenal concert of the Eastern Meadowlarks vocalizations as I was driving on the road between the soccer fields, and the "Airport Observation Area" roofed shelter. The songs all three birds were singing were Eastern Meadowlark songs: simple, high pitched, clear, slurred whistles. No gurgling phrases like a Western Meadowlark, and higher pitched than Western Meadowlarks I have heard. Because they were all singing the same song, I am identifying all three as Eastern Meadowlarks. The photo I took of one of the birds, shows a white maler, and darker crown with more face contrast, which is consistant with what I would expect on an Eastern Meadowlark. There was also a Horned Lark and a Bluebird singing at the same time. So that was great. My fingers were freezing in the cold wind, but what a great sound of spring to hear these 3 Eastern Meadowlarks singing. The location of the birds was South of the weather station and quite a ways east of the dog agility course in the grasses behind the fence, gps coordinates, 44.83224, - 93.47263.
