After several failed attempts. ...today this individual was kind enough to let me get close and capture some details of the plumage. Non-breeding plumage for sure. But, immature (brownish tone on the wing feathers) or adult?
Observation details
1. After several attempts during this migration cycle, today this individual was kind enough to let me get close and capture some details of the plumage – While returning along the edge of the river, found one of the COGR roosting at the riverbank. I was almost sure that it would fly away if I wanted to get closer, also the bird was between me and the sun. Thinking these, I was walking and passed by and I came in between the bird and the sun. 2. As it didn't fly away, I decided to slow down and changed my direction just to give a last try for today. I squat down leisurely, just before stepping into the water. During this, I always kept my body and face towards the sun, i.e. the bird was always on my left. It worked, as it didn't fly away! I slowly faced my lens towards it and looked at the bird only after covering my face with the camera. 3. It kept its head tucked near to its chest, and occasionally was looking at what I was doing. Was closing its outer eyelids frequently indicating it was feeling safe. It gave enough time to shoot about 20 images. The plumage at the front, especially the throat is not streaked - indicating it's not a breeding adult. After maybe a minute, it decided to stop resting, and started foraging and went away along the edge of the stream, and I resumed my return. 4. Photos TBA…
