Observation details
It was alone and didn't mix in with the American Pipits or Horned Larks. It was very lark-like but slightly smaller and stockier than horned. It didn't have any stripes on breast or belly. It walked crouched down with slow steps. It had pink legs and a thick bill (bigger than most sparrows). It didn't have any rufous in the wing. It had a streaky head and a lighter crown stripe. It had two whitish wingstripes bordered at the top by a thin black bar. Slight tinge of rufous on collar was visible. It had prominent white tail edges but not as prominent as on Thick-billed. Flight calls also fit. ID confirmed by other experienced birders from pictures.
