Observation details
Medium-sized swifts with longer and sharper tails than WTNT. Large flocks of swifts flying ahead of a storm in the late afternoon. Note on count: I watched the swifts and needletails for about half an hour, tallying them as they passed over. From memory (added to ebird in 2021) I counted 226, but at the time had seen neither needletails nor swifts so I assumed they were all the former. After reviewing my photos a few years ago, I realised that there were also swifts but had no idea how many there were so only listed the 3 visible in my photos. Upon rechecking my photos and records in ebird from that day, I have reestimated that half of the birds were swifts and half needletails, or roughly 100 of each.
