Observation details
First County Record. A pair (male singing and mate) accompanied by a third bird (presumably a juvenile). Birds were primarily foraging in shrubs inside the San Diego County line, but the male did make a foray into Riverside and we briefly refound the family group in Imperial County as we exited. The birds were primarily found across the street from a pump house within Anza Borrego State park territory around here: (33.4260015, -116.0860719). Per the state parks website: “Getting to Travertine Palms Wash. From Borrego Springs, drive east on County Road S-22 to Highway 86 in Salton City and turn north. Make a left turn at Avenue 86 at the Riverside County line, just past Travertine Rock. Avenue 86 is an unpaved dirt road. After about a quarter of a mile, there is a gate which can be locked. Be sure to park outside.” Constantly calling (single note Chink) to maintain close knit family group. Male occasionally sang. Brown towhee with dark face. Photos and Audio Recordings.
