Observation details
Two sandpipers were located in the shallow water preening and probing for food. They were definitely larger than peeps, but were not as big as either yellowlegs species. Their wings and backs were brown with grayish edges to the feathers. The crown of the head was a dark brown, and they had an appearance of a light supercilium and dark eyeline. The neck, and breast were heavily barred/streaked in brown and gray. The stomach was white, and there was a clean demarcation between the barring of the breast and the white belly. The legs were yellow. The bill was medium-length and was yellowish/orange at the base and darker toward the tip.
