Observation details
When I arrived, the young owl was in the tree (outside the fenced area) that the family has been using regularly (By Russ's report), but the adults were not there. That was puzzling to those who have been observing the birds. Later, a friend of Russ's signaled that she had spotted the parents on the opposite side of the pond. While several of us were observing the parents, 2 crows began to call and patrol, and the mother immediately flew to the spot where the young bird was perched. I did not see it, but Russ reported that the parent and young preened each other. Mediocre photos show the young alone, the parents together, and the mother with young.
