Observation details
Continuing. Lifer! Small sparrow, noticeably tinier than the song sparrows it was associating with. White malar stripe distinctive. First glimpsed it on the path where it was spotted earlier today, downhill from the ball field, but it quickly disappeared into the autumn olive beside the trail. Later found it manning home plate as it foraged, before retreating with the other sparrows into the pile of dead knotweed stalks behind the diamond. I was able to slowly approach at this point and get a few pictures as it sat sleepily for a minute or two. It then vocalised a few times before flying off, out of sight.
