Observation details
Same spot as one seen on previous trip to this location two weeks earlier, 4 seen on two separate occasions last year, 1 two years ago. This time we spotted two circling around over road and to N of road at the usual location. Then lost them for a little while, and when relocated (assuming same 2 birds and not a separate pair) they were circling around over the pond and adjacent woods on south side of road a little further along, and were seen to be carrying nesting material (usually long, thin stick), mostly carried in feet. We watched them for more than a few minutes and figured out the spot in the trees where they seemed to disappear for a minute, then reappear without the stick. We then drove up the road, uphill from creek bottoms to hilltop, to be nearer this spot, and walked back to the best view of suspected clump of trees for nest (viewed through woods at closest point to road), which were several oaks clustered together roughly 200-300 feet (estimate) from the south side of the road in a band of mixed hardwoods and pines on the hillside and almost hilltop, bordering the 2-or-3-year-old clear cut. The band of woods is in the WMP/KNF, but the cutover is private/commercial land. We were never able to actually spot the exact spot the birds were landing and taking off from, but narrowed it down to that patch of several oaks together in the wood line right on the property boundary/edge of cutover.
