Observation details
Continuing report of Lesser Black-backed Gulls within a large mixed group of Ring-billed and Herring Gulls in the middle of Lake Crabtree. First reported today by Mark Hammond and Kevin Markham at the Lake Crabtree Park tower. The attached photo shows a Gull in flight with a distinctly darker back (appearing black) compared to other Gulls in the group. The photo was taken from the southside of the lake (Lake Crabtree Dam) at the MetLife clearing. The photo is a low-resolution crop from long distance and does not show bill or feet detail, but the dark back/wings is evident in flight as is the slightly larger size compared to the nearby RBGU. The group was briefly flushed by a boat and then settled back in middle of the lake.
