Observation details
The Crakes were, quite simply, in wonderful form!! Almost immediately, I locked onto one pottering about at the nearest end of the grassy tongue of land splitting the wetland in two, utterly unconcerned as it beetled about in a way that reminded me a lot of a Stint, though the leaden-blue front and paint-dappled back, along with that cheerfully bright yellow and red bill standing out from a mile away couldn't have been more different from a Wader, of course!! It's very interesting how, when seen side by side, the Spotteds, portly and rather squished-looking as they are, really do behave completely unlike their linear-foraging, far more furtive cousins!! In all honesty, four is a particularly conservative guess... which of course means this was an immensely successful time of enjoying their presence!!
