Observation details
Really fascinating observation. I had been waiting by a small creek watching an array of birds come down to bathe when this Cooper's Hawk swooped down incredibly fast directly into the thicket near me. It proceeded to chase something through the bushes on the ground, jumping and "running" before whatever it was got away. Got the picture when it flew up out of the denser parts. It proceeded to stay put for a while, moving from branch to branch slowly and looking around before again diving to the ground to chase something, again, unsuccessfully. It eventually flew to the top of a nearby tree before relocating. Incredible to watch and amazing to see a relatively large bird move so quickly through such exceptionally dense branches and growth in such an unusual manner.
