Observation details
Easily the most common duck out here this morning. This is a conservative estimate. A motor boat traveling at speed from the other side of the bay to our side flushed the flock of Greater Scaup. My 2 photos of birds in the air flying in a southerly direction were taken before I started videoing the flight. My 3 video sequences were taken over several continuous minutes at approx the same point as all the birds were flying southerly in the same direction as they flushed up. They were not counted twice. Photos taken later after the motor boat passed show birds settling back down in a long raft that stretched from the south end of the bay and north in front of houses on far shore. I took a sequence of 17 photos showing the resettled flock from the south end near where flock started and continued to the north where the flock was getting thinner. We have done due diligence to document that this flock of Greater Scaup was huge.
