Observation details
While conducting point count surveys I had HESPS at 3/6 points. Most were first detected by sharp descending 'trill' seep notes, several sang "tss-slisk", and 4/5 were seen very well. Greenish pale sparrows with large flat-topped bills, sharp streaks down the chest and flanks, pale throats, greenish wash under the streaks, rusty backs, and dark auricular spots. Viewed at very close range, a species I have quite a bit of experience with from nest-searching for them in MO. Counted 1x1. Based off our sightings this week and considering all the surveys it seems like these sparrows are pretty localized in one area of the prairie and sort of one habitat type. 27.8397974, -81.1312377 Photos/Audio of trill call tba
