Observation details
Can't be confused with whimbrels, also present. Larger and extremely long bill. Called multiple times, through which I confirmed ID. Rather otherworldly call that matched eurasian curlew calls and did not match far eastern calls from xeno canto, listened to in the field allowing direct comparison. See photo showing white underparts, also lending support for Eurasian over Far Eastern. I also saw a curlew in flight over the west end of the Saipan airport runway on March 13, ~0830hrs. I knew it was a curlew and not a whimbrel from the larger size and longer bill, but was not able to identify further. It may or may not have been the same bird.
