Nest building

Observation details

Watched the pair at the nest we found two days ago. Then they were removing leaves. Today the female was stripping bark off of trees and a grape vine, carrying it into the nest. The nest has a top and side entrance. Observed her going in with material 12 times, some of the bark pieces were ~4” long but she’d deftly maneuver it to an angular position and slip in the hole. Observed twice the male come out of the cavity w what looked to be either a downy feather or an insect, he then wiped it on the nest entrance as well as on the nearby bark. He then poked it into the bark nearby.
