Observation details
(Rare): “infrequent”: recorded call note (which Merlin also called FISP). Then saw it through branches of shrub ~ 50-yard from me, still calling, reddish crown and streaky back, small sparrow, couldn’t make out much more visually. Prob saw large pale pink bill. Definitely red crown. What I did see consistent with FISP, and didn’t seem like tree sparrow to me (but can’t rule out visually). I followed it down to try to see better, but not seen again. — My FOS. — Heard initially while working in south hedgerow cutting out invasive honeysuckle shrubs. Ended up seeing it inside a shrub on bank of central south ditch, between the bridges.
