Observation details
I am late posting this as I wanted to be sure my distant and blurry photo supported the ID. I was only just able to reestablish download from my camera to review the photo. We had spent the morning looking for the Crane Hawk. We saw and heard 3 Gray Hawks north of the boat ramp. Then we heard a similar, but softer call (to my ear) and saw a hawk perched on the Mexico side south of the boat ramp. Our binocular views indicated a very long tail (longer than the Gray Hawks in the area) with two wide white bands and very long legs. My poor picture verified this as well as bright orange-red legs, in contrast to more yellowish legs of the Gray Hawk. We watched the bird fly from the MX side to the US side, into the trees near DeWind’s area.
