Observation details
Conservative count. Half over the water with other terns and later at the point and half in large mixed groups on the beach west of the pier. (See SATE comments) Likely many more on the lighthouse island to the south. I was running short on time but did give a quick bin scope that added fifty to the count. Most I have ever seen at once, saw 400 two years ago but missed the 4000 explosion. So fun to watch them forage in the water. They approach low moving toward the shore then bounce slowly up and down, then swoop up when they catch a fish. One bird gave amazing views at the end of the dunes. It didn't appear injured by was certainly exhausted
