Observation details
Including 1–2 each apparent Nelson's (Herring x Glaucous) and Seward (Glaucous-winged x Glaucous), a bird with some Slaty-backed characteristics (last 4 photos) but small-headed and perhaps not sufficiently bulky/fierce-looking; resembles Vega also but lacking dark markings on greater coverts and upperwing generally not as well-marked as is ideal for Vega, but perhaps ok for worn birds? Also a bird that initially read like a Lesser Black-backed to me (first 8 photos) but some problems are obvious in photos (e.g., much too much pale on upperwing covs). Feedback has been conflicted. One gull person also suggested LBBG, one says it is definitely not a Lesser Black-backed but is unsure what it is, and a few more are uncommitted. Best to leave under Larus sp. at least for now, I feel.
