Observation details
2 males, at least 3 females. Viewed with Lesser scaup pair for comparison. For males: head shape in profile with rounded peak in front of eye and no peak behind the eye; from head on view, the top of the head was obviously broader than adjacent Lesser Scaup (whose head almost looked like it came to a point when viewed head on), GRSC cheeks somewhat wider. Head of GRSC males had green sheen in several lights, compared with a more purple/darker/warmer sheen of the LESC male next to them. Larger size of GRSC in comparison with LESC, evident on the water and especially when the flock took flight. In flight, at least 3 of the females in the group had extensive white on the remiges, white reaching the outermost secondaries and pale into the primaries. Adjacent female LESC in flight appeared obviously small and showed a more distinct white bar on inner secondaries and some pale on primaries (less extensive). Will attach some photos that show at least male comparison later (done, lesser in front, greater behind).
