Observation details
In flooded sod fields west of park/aquatic center (34.1269474, -84.8301736). We noticed a shorebird noticeably larger than nearby Killdeer during a scan. After a scope view, it was clear to be a larger plover. Tall shorebird, pail on front, brownish-tan checkered back, large eyes, small to medium beak (clearly not a sandpiper). Broad pale eyebrow distinct as was a darker cap. Bill thinner and more pointed than one would expect to see in a Black-bellied. Habitat strongly suggested American Golden-Plover. After closely inspecting two birds, five more were discovered further away. A few of those briefly flew and no black wing pits were detected. Exact 1:1 count
