Media notes

Recorded using the vehicle as a blind. In the first segment a lone male has just landed in a small roadside slough and is calling, with a breathy upslurred introduction to the call. Late in this segment the duck flies to an adjacent field and continues calling. In the second segment the duck has flown to a small slough on the other side of the road, continues to call and can be heard foraging on the surface of the water, making quiet slapping noises. At the end of this segment the duck takes off and returns to the slough on the other side of the road. In the third segment the male has been joined by a female. The male is no longer calling and the pair can be heard foraging at the surface and making the quiet slapping noise. This is accompanied by very quiet calls that were not heard when the male was making the slapping sound on his own.
