Observation details
Hooded (Laughing/Franklin's) type gull in mostly basic plumage seen on sand bar in lagoon. The hood was partial and mostly behind the eye. The size was much smaller than ring billed gull. The wings appeared long with substantial black on distal primaries with little or no white on both upper and undersides. The mantle was smokey gray color and contrasted with white tips of secondaries and white tail. The bill was black and appear long with droopy tip. The sides of neck were gray. The color of tail, lack of substantial white tips on primaries, and gray on sides of neck suggest at least a second cycle bird. The lack of white band on primaries, long droopy bill, and gray on hind/sides of neck eliminate Franklin's Gull.
