Observation details
First peents around 5:45pm. First flights were about 10 minutes later. Flights and calls continued until 6:15pm. Watched a dozen flights, including at least one where two woodcocks flew together. Surprised we were the only ones there. It was a perfect night, with clear skies and still air. We set up alongside the paths in the rear meadow near the overgrown farmhouse concrete slab/foundation (https://maps.app.goo.gl/5cGQG7SzvDSnKqKH8). The one poorly photographed called the whole time from in front of the foundation itself, when it wasn't flying. At least two of the five we heard called from the direction of the front meadow. I suppose there may have been more that way out of earshot, given the habitat is identical. In addition to the attached long recording made with phone+external mic, I also tested out the BirdWeather PUC. Here are all the nine-second snippets it identified as having a woodcock present: https://app.birdweather.com/data/wbFuHVos6gUaWCzLsmtyUgAz.
