Observation details
I was watching 7 starlings (using my spotting scope). I've seen them perched in the trees adjacent to the Bald Eagle nest regularly. They were a considerable distance from my car. All of a sudden they took off. As I looked for them with my binoculars, I noticed what looked like a songbird - perched on a stick hanging out from the underside of the Bald Eagle nest. It was a songbird, but wasn't a starling. I watched it fly out and return several times. I pulled out my scope again and spotted the familiar thin black mask of a Northern Shrike. It was hunting from that stick on the underside of the eagle's nest - on the south-east side of the nearly empty augmentation pool at the impoundment.
