Observation details
I was driving east on West Somerset Rd, just west of Hosmer Rd, headed to work and looked north to see lots of loose strings of geese in the air in the distance. I pulled over and with binoculars confirmed they were Snow Geese (white bodies with black primaries). There were easily a thousand in view from that point. I continued driving east and the stream of geese just kept going and going. I passed the intersection of Hosmer and then the intersection of Hartland, the whole time seeing strings of geese to the north. Finally the stream ended and I pulled over just as they were headed over the road and I took a video. From where they started to where they ended was about 2 miles based on Google Maps. Some segments were lower density than others of birds but over the two miles I’m conservatively estimating 8000 Snow Geese. I stopped periodically to keep confirming all the “strings” were Snow Geese and they were except for one small flock of Canadas. I have never seen that many Snow Geese in our area - incredible!!
