Observation details
1st known February record for Somerset County where the expected spring arrival window for the immediate region is typically late March/early April. Clearly a small yellowlegs, especially apparent when in direct comparison to other birds like Killdeer, snipe, and robins: longer legged but otherwise similar in size to Killdeer when side by side, notably smaller looking than Wilson’s Snipe when side by side; relatively small, thin bill but appeared to be on the longer end for this species; low and descending “tu” calls (single and doubled) heard well when it flushed a short distance; doc photos/digiscoped video
