Observation details
All near-adult (third cycle) birds. Loafing on the gravel bar at the mouth of the Jordan River. Associating with Short-billed, Iceland (Thayer's) and Glaucous-winged Gulls. Similar in plumage to adult California Gulls, but many had black tips to the bills. Larger than the adjacent Short-billed Gulls and smaller than the Thayer's and Glaucous-wings. Conspicuously slightly darker mantles than the other species. Long slim bills and greenish legs. Uploaded photo shows several of these gulls, including the one in flight and another with its wings raised.
