Observation details
Continuing bird along the wash by amphitheater. I was mostly looking low since that had been the main advice, but that day a Cordilleran kept hanging out low in the area and I finally spotted this little guy way up high instead! The Merlin app repeatedly tagged some audio which helped me know when to be on alert (I've uploaded a selection). Got to watch him for a couple minutes. Lousy photos in the sunlight, but it was a very tiny Empidonax-style flycatcher with a small beak and more taupe-colored (by which I mean grey with a very faint brownish wash) breast and nape instead of the obvious olive-green of the Cordilleran or slate grey of the Hammond’s / dusky types we had seen that day.
