Observation details
While leading the Friday Morning Birding tour at Beaver Meadow, someone brought up a Saw-whet owl that was being heard in a county park nearby. Another person from the group asked what a Saw-whet Owl sounded like, and TJ happily demonstrated by whistling several Saw-whet Owl "toots." We continued the conversation about how none of us had ever heard a Saw-whet, only to be interrupted by a Saw-whet Owl tooting from a nearby stand of spruce. We looked but could not see through the dense branches, though we were pretty sure which tree it was in. The owl called several more times over approximately half an hour. I would not believe it if I wasn't there to hear it with my own ears.
