Observation details
When I reached the beach I immediately clocked a group of four goldeneye about 50 m away to the south. Getting bins on them it was immediately clear they were all formative male Barrow's with their boofy heads and indistinct white crescent! Superb! As I got the scope on them and took a few record photos, I suddenly heard a couple of ducks fly in and land just 20m in front of me. I couldn't quite believe it when I looked and saw it was a pair of Barrow's! A cracking moonface drake accompanying a female sporting an exquisite yellow bill. At this point the four young males flew in and joined the pair and I enjoyed superb views of all six swimming together and later diving and foraging together. I really couldn't have asked for more!
